PetFest ’09

We have this way cool off leash dog park not far from our house that the two-legged and four-legged monsters love to go to.  On Saturday they had their 4th annual PetFest so we decided to go.

The kids wanted to enter the pet/owner look alike contest so we dressed them up to look like the dogs.  They didn’t win but they had a lot of fun and got lots of compliments.  Hubby monster and Lullibel think the contest might have been rigged because the winners were…well…I’ll just say they were nice enough people and move on.  Check out the picture of the winner and my monsters and you decide.  The cutest dog in that contest was a little guy named Elvis that had a slicked up hairstyle…He didn’t place either!

We also entered a “raffle” for some very cool gift baskets that they had there.  We won the basket that was a cute dog carrier and had pet sushi in it.  Funny stuff!

My messy brain

I have been trying to get my wordle to come up and show you guys the mess of stuff that my brain looks like these days but all I can get is the thumbnail.  So here it is.  Click on it and you can see it in all of it’s glory!

Mav needs a bath

Anybody out there own a dog?  A really big uber furry dog?

I do.

And that beautiful, faithful, gorgeous humongoloid needs a bath…desperately.

I think I might rather bathe the cat.

See it’s more a facility issue than the bath really.  I used to bathe him myself when I had a shower with a hose attachment and a door on it.  But the last house didn’t have a door and this one doesn’t have a hose…Sounds like a lot of complaining for a Thursday, right?

I submit to you exhibit A…

The size of the animal in question and the amount of hair involved…do  you realize how much water that hair can hold?  Thus the need for the hose—to rinse the dog…and the need for the door on the shower—when he shakes the water out of all that hair there is a mop up crew involved in the clean up.

So today I am going to try to find one of those dog wash places…that way they have to mop up the shaken water.

I’ll keep you posted…

Much cleaner and far less indignant than 45 minutes ago!

In 50 words…

Have you ever had so many ideas for things you want to write about that you couldn’t get one idea to stay in focus long enough to make it coherent?

What is  that called?

Because it can’t be writers block…I actually have the ideas…they are all there, running around like little wind up cars in my head…

Lullibell’s class is doing a kind of writer’s workshop right now.  She has to write a paragraph every night this week about a chapter book she has read.  Monday was a paragraph about the main character.  Yesterday it was supposed to be about what makes the story believable.

She struggled a bit a the beginning of both of these because, of all things, the instructions were for a 50 word paragraph.  This sounded like a lot to her.  So I had to break it down for her…what is the first thing you need to do?…duh, pick a book….then what?…figure out who the main character is…you get the idea.

So Lullibell got the paragraph started but it took for-freakin’-ever because she kept stopping to count her words after each sentence!  After she wrote for a bit and got frustrated by the less-than-fiftiness of it I asked her some questions and she was able to come up with enough words ideas to finish.

The second paragraph went better once she figured out what the assignment meant.  Lullibell decided the story was believable because of how much she and the main character have in common…third grade, hating homework, a pesky little brother…and less word counting made the whole thing go much faster!

Today should be a piece of cake, right?

A sky so blue

I think that is the strongest memory I have from that day, seven years ago…how can something so horrific happen on such a beautiful day with a sky so blue?

A day to remember

Just to get the pumps primed for tomorrow’s post:

Horrific…I think we should watch this every day…just to remember the people who died on that day and have died in their names and for us since
